STATEMENT OF INTENT - Privacy
The Australian Federation of International Forwarders Ltd ("AFIF",
"we") is committed to protecting the privacy of Personal
Information. The detail that follows explains how AFIF collects,
uses, discloses and protects this information.
In this policy, "Personal Information" means information
or an opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent or
can reasonably be ascertained from that information or opinion.
"Representatives" includes employees, contractors and
agents.
This policy does not apply to acts and practices of AFIF that relate
directly to the employee records of AFIF's current and former employees.
It does apply to acts and practices relating to Personal Information
about employment candidates and contractors.
COLLECTION OF INFORMATION
AFIF collects Personal Information about its members and their Representatives
for the primary purpose of fulfilling our business commitments to
our members, including by:
- providing news and information;
- providing education and training;
- distributing industry publications to members;
- supplying products ordered by or on behalf of members, including
products ordered on-line;
- providing our members and their Representatives with information
about products and services that AFIF provides;
- improving AFIF's products and services, including by testing
the demand for products and services which AFIF provides or might
provide;
- complying with laws and requirements of government agencies
and statutory authorities that apply to AFIF;
- obtaining confidential legal and financial services required
by AFIF;
- obtaining other services required by AFIF; and
- providing other membership services listed on AFIF's website
(www.afif.asn.au).

If AFIF's purpose for collecting Personal Information about you
is not one of the Purposes listed above, then we will take reasonable
steps to ensure that you are aware of that purpose at or as soon
as is practicable after the time we collect that Personal Information.
USE AND DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION
AFIF uses and discloses information about its members and key personnel
of its members for the Purposes listed above and for any additional
purposes which we disclose to you.
AFIF may disclose information about you on a confidential basis
to third party suppliers to AFIF, such as mailing houses, information
technology support service suppliers, AFIF's legal advisers and
AFIF's accountants. AFIF's contracts with those suppliers prohibit
the suppliers from using or disclosing Personal Information obtained
from AFIF for any purpose other than to provide services to AFIF
except as required by law.
AFIF will not use or disclose Personal Information for any purpose
(a "Secondary Purpose") other than the primary purpose of
collection ("Primary Purpose") unless:
- you consent to AFIF using or disclosing the information for
the Secondary Purpose or to the relevant use or disclosure;
- the disclosure is required or authorised by law or for purposes
of law enforcement and matters directly related to law enforcement
or the prevention of unlawful activity;
- the Secondary Purpose is related to the primary purpose (or
directly related when sensitive information is involved) and there
is a reasonable expectation that we would use or disclose the
information in the circumstances; or
- AFIF reasonably believes it is necessary to prevent any serious
and imminent threat to any person's life, health or safety or
the public's health or safety.
AFIF does not sell any Personal Information to third parties.
If you do not provide Personal Information to AFIF, then AFIF may
not be able to provide all of its usual goods and services to you
or to the AFIF member you represent.
LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES
AFIF's website has links to various third party web sites that provide
related services and benefits. The privacy policies of these third
parties may be different to that of AFIF and we recommend that you
review any third party's privacy policy before using their products
and services.
Our links to other web sites should also not be construed as an
endorsement, approval or recommendation by us of the owners or operators
of those linked web sites, or of any information, graphics, materials,
products or services referred to or contained on those linked web
sites, unless stipulated to the contrary.
INFORMATION ABOUT THIRD PARTIES
If you provide us with any Personal Information about someone else
(such as one of your directors or Representatives or someone with
whom you have dealings) you must ensure that you are entitled to
disclose that information to us and that, without us taking any
further steps required by privacy laws, we may collect, use and
disclose such information for the Purposes described above. For
example, you should take reasonable steps to ensure the individual
concerned is aware of the various matters detailed in this policy
as those matters relate to that individual, including our identity,
how to contact us, our purposes of collection, our information disclosure
practices, the individual's right to obtain access to the information
and the consequences for the individual if the information is not
provided.
STORAGE AND SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
AFIF will take steps to keep the Personal Information it holds in
a secure environment.
When Personal Information is required to make an enquiry, place
an order, enrol in a course or use any of our member only services,
the information collected is kept to service the request or provide
the products. Unless we are requested not to, we also retain a copy
of the Personal Information so that we can offer updated products
and information.
AFIF will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify Personal
Information when AFIF no longer needs the information for a purpose
for which AFIF may use or disclose it in accordance with this policy.
We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, which encrypts financial
information you provide through our internet site so as to protect
its security during transmission. We operate within an industry
standard firewall.
We also have security measures in place to protect against the loss,
misuse, unauthorised access, alteration, modification or disclosure
of Personal Information about you which we hold. The type and extent
of the measures differs according to the type of information and
the context in which it is provided.
Notwithstanding the fact that we take reasonable steps to protect
your personal data including the use of encryption technology, we
cannot guarantee the security of any data you disclose on-line.
We have taken reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised access, disclosure,
loss, misuse or alteration of data. You should be aware of the inherent
risks associated with the transmission of information via the Internet.
COOKIES
AFIF may use cookies to personalise and simplify access to our web
sites and to monitor traffic patterns. A “cookie” does
not identify you personally but it does identify your computer. You
can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie and this
will provide you with an opportunity to either accept or reject it
in each instance.
ACCESSING AND CHANGING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
AFIF takes reasonable steps to ensure that Personal Information
collected and stored is accurate and up to date.
You are entitled to request access to the information we hold about
you. We will provide you with access unless a relevant exception
to the access obligation in the Privacy Act applies.

LIABILITY DISCLAIMER
To the extent permitted by law, AFIF excludes liability for any
loss or damage (including without limitation all costs (including
legal costs), expenses, lost profits and lost anticipated savings)
caused in whole or in part by disclosure of or third party access
to confidential or Personal Information, however that access is
obtained and whether or not that access was obtained in whole or
in part due to negligence of or any other act or omission of AFIF,
its Representatives, suppliers, contractors, related bodies corporate,
affiliates or associated parties, whether or not that act or omission
was in breach of this policy. To the extent that it cannot exclude
such liability and is permitted to do so by law, AFIF limits such
liability to $1 in total.
We are constantly improving AFIF 's website and the services available
on it. In future, we may provide a service which enables you to
manage Personal Information about yourself which appears on the
website. Please refer to this page from time to time to see any
new policies about the use of these new features.
We do not represent or warrant that the information we provide is
reliable, accurate or complete or that your access to that information
will be uninterrupted, timely or secure.
Where the information made available over this service contains
