Increased Surveillance and Action on Overweight Containers
at Port Botany

The NSW Minister for Roads and Ports, Mr Duncan Gay MLC, has highlighted the positive action implemented to reduce the incidence of imported overweight containers travelling away from Port Botany.

The Minister issued a Press Release on December 19th detailing the progress of landmark initiatives implemented at Port Botany to identify overweight containers and provide for remedial action but stressed that a number of operators were still not following the rules.

Our information is that there will be a further increase in operational activity by the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to address this problem, beginning in January and one can only surmise that penalties may be the resulting outcome if the problem persists.

Please refer to the attached Press Release from the Minister and kindly notify all persons involved in this aspect of your business.
