Dear {Firstname},
NOTE: The fee for this e-learning training will rise significantly from 1 January 2010. Order now at 2009 prices and beat the price rise.
As advised in previous Bulletins, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has stipulated that there will be mandatory training requirements under Chapter 1.3 of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code to the effect that all shore based personnel involved in the transport of dangerous goods for sea will require appropriate mandatory training prior to 1 January 2010.
AFIF, in conjunction with the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc. (CBFCA), will provide training to industry that meets the requirements of AMSA for accreditation under the IMDG Code.
For more information about the accreditation requirements click here to read an information sheet from AMSA on the mandatory training requirements.
Of critical importance, is the AMSA statement that:
"The use of untrained or inappropriately trained personnel to prepare a shipment would be a breach of the requirements of the IMDG Code and could result in shipments being prohibited from loading"
The training required is function specific and covers a range of personnel within the supply chain from the shipper to the person placing cargo in the depot. Fortunately, the accreditation training provided by your industry association enables the user to select the functions that apply to his or her role and take the training that specifically relates to that role. For more information on which function may be relevant see the attached document entitled Function Specific Requirements.
This training will initially be provided as an e-learning solution and is provided at a very cost effective rate of $143 per person including GST. Classroom courses may be arranged to meet the needs of industry however the per-head fees for that training will be at a much higher rate as the classroom-based training for this accreditation is a two-day course with a similar price structure to the IATA Air Acceptance accreditation courses.
Please note that classroom-based training will NOT be available until after the 1 January 2010 deadline for accreditation.
To find out more about the e-learning solution see the attached document entitled Process for accessing IMDG Code accreditation training. Note that the process requires that persons seeking training to first download and install free software and then purchase an activation code to use the software. Full information about this process is provided in the attached document.
For persons seeking classroom-based training, please send an expression of interest about this to Jodie Murray via training@afif.asn.au advising the number of people required to be trained and the city in which the training is to take place.
Thanks and regards
