Sydney Ports obtains planning approval for Enfield Intermodal Logistics Centre
It gives me great
pleasure to inform you all that this morning, the NSW Minister for
Planning,
The Hon Frank Sartor approved Sydney Ports' application to develop an
Intermodal Logistics
Centre (ILC) at our 60-hectare site at Enfield.
The ILC
will incorporate an intermodal terminal with the capacity to handle
a
throughput of 300,000 TEUs per annum, rail sidings, warehousing,
empty
container storage, a light industrial-commercial area and a community and ecological
area.
The centre will help to achieve Sydney Ports' and the NSW Government's
target
of increasing the number of containers transported by rail to and from Port
Botany
to 40%. Enfield will be a critical link in Sydney's intermodal network,
connecting
businesses in the western suburbs to the global market.
Container trade through Port Botany grew by 12% last year and is forecast to
continue
to grow, highlighting the need for additional intermodal capacity to
serve
Sydney's cargo transportation needs.
Sydney Ports will now proceed to deliver this
project in conjunction with the private sector and more information will
communicated over the coming months.
